Annette Werner was formerly a personal lines CSR at a captive agency for several years before joining the Capital Insurance team in October 2015 as a commercial lines CSR. She obtained her property and casualty license in 2003.
Werner is married to Mark and they have two children together; Amberly (Dan Jorgenson), who lives in Chicago and has one son, and Anthony (Kelsey) Werner, who is a teacher in DeSoto, MO. Anthony has three sons.
In her spare time Annette enjoys trips with her husband to see their grandchildren, their two wonderful dogs, reading, and attempting to grow lots of flowers in the summer.
Sam graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelors in Business Finance in 2016. He immediately went to work at Capital Insurance & Associates as a producer, writing commercial and personal lines as well as life and health insurance. Sam commits a lot of his free time to Eagle Ridge Christian School helping coach and run their basketball program.
Sheri Smith joined Capital Insurance & Associates in October 2015 as an agent and commercial lines account manager. She obtained her property & casualty insurance license in 2010 specializing in commercial lines. Sheri’s role at Capital allows her to work with both personal lines and commercial lines customers.
Smith is married to Chad, who works for Mid-South Steel and they have two children; Stetson, who is a member of the MO Army National Guard and attends Southeast Missouri State University, and Bailey, who attends UMKC. In Sheri’s free time she likes to travel with her husband on their Harley Davidson.
Jerry has resided in Cape Girardeau for the past 40 years, where he owned and operated a successful insurance agency for a captive company. After retiring in 2015, Jerry opted to continue to work in the insurance industry as an independent agent. He started with Capital in 2017 and enjoys the associates he is working with. He has found it satisfying to work in an agency with so many amazing companies to help all of his clients find the right coverage for each of them. He has been married to Terrie for 45 years, has two children and five grandchildren. Loves to travel and be with his family. Debbie became a licensed insurance agent in 1985, and has been affiliated with Capital Insurance & Associates since 1996. She was a member of the Society of Certified Insurance Service Representatives for over 20 years. In October of 2005 and again in July 2011 she and Chris purchased the remaining stock and now we are the majority owners of Capital Insurance & Associates.
Debbie is married to Chris Gross. With 25 years of sales experience, Chris left his position as a Sales Executive at Motorcycle Stuff in Cape Girardeau, and joined the sales force at Capital Insurance & Associates. They have 2 children Cassie and Dustin; Cassie married Edgar Myers in 2011. From this marriage Debbie & Chris are blessed with 2 step-grandchildren Morgan and Hayden. Cassie works for the Department of Treasury and continues to work on her doctorate. Dustin married Kendra Haney in 2012. Dustin owns and operates his own business, Cape Girardeau Tile Company. Debbie & Chris pride themselves on having a locally owned, family business and enjoy working in that environment.
John graduated Cum Laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 1997. He went immediately to work at Capital Insurance & Associates as a producer, writing commercial and personal lines as well as life and health insurance. John became one of the partners of the agency in 2005. John resides in Jackson, MO with his wife Shana and their two children, Katie and John III.
Mary's father, Norman E. McElreath, founded McElreath Realty and Insurance in 1955. In 1970 she began working for the agency while attending Southeast Missouri State University. Licensed as both agent and broker in 1971, Mary continued her education and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration in May of 1973, majoring in general business management, and minoring in chemistry and mathematics. She was an agent/broker for the agency and because partner in 1977. After her father's retirement in 1985 she continued to operate and own McElreath Realty and Insurance until September 1, 1997, when the agency merged with Capital Insurance & Associates. This merger enabled Mary to focus on serving her customers. She has served multiple terms as president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer of the Independent Insurance Agents of Cape Girardeau since 1975. In 1978, she served as a director on the Small Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Missouri. As a producer at Capital Insurance & Associates, Mary writes all lines of property, casualty, life and health insurance. Her interest, experience, and the predominant volume of written accounts are commercial property and casualty. For all customers, she concentrates on providing the best combination of coverage, price and service. Mary is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, and has served on the Finance Board, Evangelism Board, secretary of Church Planning and Building Committee ($2,100,000 church building project, 1977-1982), secretary of the Board of Education of Trinity Lutheran School, and Sunday school teacher. During her tenure on the Board of Education, she served to establish the Trinity Lutheran School extended care program and the Trinity Lutheran School Foundation. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation in Cape Girardeau. Mary is a Cape Girardeau native with two children.
